Cotton needs over 3x more water than hemp.

Producing cotton requires vast quantities of water: 2700 liters to make 1 cotton t-shirt [2]. This causes water shortages for local people [2]. However, to grow a ton of hemp requires a lot less water than a ton of cotton [1]. Hemp can be used for a lot of the same purposes as cotton, including bags and clothing [3,4], and is now even being used for packaging [5]! Is hemp a wonderous material that will reduce harm to the environment? We’ll discuss this in our next post!
